Led by José Antonio Vallejo, a unique forestry agent in the northern Sierra de Guadarrama, as well as director and producer of nature and ethnography documentaries.

Granite, an indisputable character of the landscape of the Sierra de Guadarrama, has served for the development of a rich activity around it. The quarrying came to acquire great prominence in  many towns in the area. From the hand of Tomás Villamayor, stonemason of the Colmenar Viejo Stonemasons Association, we will learn more about this ancient and dangerous trade. We will talk about its past,  present and future perspective of this very traditional activity linked to our mountains.

Sunday January 27 (11:00 –12: 30 hours)

Visit to the Ethnological Museum of Manzanares el Real

Thanks to the invaluable collaboration of the El Real de Manzanares Cultural Association and the Manzanares el Real City Council, they will guide us through this small but very 
interesting museum of traditional arts.

Sunday January 27 (1:00 pm to 2:30 pm)

Landscape and traditional uses in the Sierra de Guadarrama

Julio Vías, author of Memorias del Guadarrama, will tell us about past trades and ways of life. To speak of the mountains and its landscapes is to speak of ranchers, shepherds, bargemen, woodcutters, etc. who have modeled and worked the mountain for years leaving us a beautiful heritage as we know it.
